JRPass: point-to-point train tickets in Japan
Since February 2026, EvoTech SAS has worked within the team of the software factory atEnbi on a project for JRPass: a new system for booking and issuing point-to-point train tickets in Japan, integrated with the existing platform.
Client and partner
JRPass is a United Kingdom company that offers Japan rail passes and train tickets for travellers.
atEnbi is a software factory from Poland. EvoTech SAS works on the project as part of its team.
Period: since February 2026, ongoing.
Role of EvoTech SAS: senior full-stack development in Ruby on Rails, plus the architecture and technical decisions of the new project.
The need
JRPass only offered rail passes. It wanted to add point-to-point tickets (for example, Tokyo → Osaka) with a new system, integrated with the existing platform.
What we did
- Architecture and technical decisions for the new point-to-point ticket system, integrated with the previous system.
- A Python bot that automates ticket issuing in the rail provider's system. It runs on AWS and connects to the platform through an API.
- Integrations with Adyen (payments), Xero (accounting) and Revolut.
Stack
- Ruby on Rails
- PostgreSQL
- Python
- AWS
- Adyen
- Xero
- Revolut
Result
The new module went live in mid-2026 and now handles about 300 tickets per month.
